What is a Jumbo Frame?
A Jumbo Frame is a network transfer unit where the packet size is increased (for example, from 1500 bytes to 9 kbytes). This reduces the number of packets required to transfer one image frame, improving transfer efficiency and stabilizing processing. (Also referred to as “Jumbo Packet.”)
Example:
When transferring 2,048 × 1,536 resolution, 8-bit data with a GigE Vision camera, the data size per frame is about 25,165,000 bytes.
With Jumbo Frame disabled (1500 bytes): ~16,780 packets are needed (25,165,000 / 1,500).
With 9 kbytes Jumbo Frame enabled: ~2,800 packets are needed (25,165,000 / 9,000).
Thus, enabling Jumbo Frames significantly reduces the number of packets.
Recommendation:
If the network card used with a GigE Vision camera supports 9 kbytes Jumbo Frames, it is recommended to enable this setting.
